WW1 Silver Trench Watch c.1917
A good WW1 silver Trench Watch, of Swiss origin but imported to England by George Stockwell. This jeweller imported watches during the Great War, many with similar military attributes, which likely saw active service. The London hallmark gives the assay date, 1917.
By 1917 the War Department were advocating the use of "Wristlets" as "indispensable" items of military kit, through their Army Manual publications.
Interestingly, this 15 jewel watch has plenty of evidence of service use through to World War 2, as the inner back has numerous watchmaker repair dates during these years. It remains in full working order and in generally untouched, original and sleepy condition.
Watch diameter = 33 mm excluding crown
