WW2 Bust of General Sikorski c.1943
A rare bust of the Polish Army General Władysław Sikorski. Artisan made during WW2, the bust has been hand carved from alabaster, a mineral stone largely found in the Mediterranean and North Africa. This white bust is in good overall condition but it does exhibit age wear, slight damage and discolouration.
In 1943 General Sikorski was killed when his aircraft crashed shortly after take-off from Gibraltar. As an admired military leader, it is quite likely that the bust was made as a commemorative, at around this time.
