WW2 GSTP Fleurier Pocket Watch, c.1943
A superb WW2 GSTP pocket watch in untouched condition. The watch works well and features the 40H calibre 15 jewel movement by Fleurier, who is known today as Parmigiani Fleuirer - A premier watchmaker.
During the war, the "GSTP" mark was informally referred to by soldiers as "General Service Timepieces." However, back at the War Department, the watches were officially known as the General Service Trade Pattern, where "Trade Pattern" referred to the type of watch that the Swiss watch companies felt that they could supply and still avoid Nazi complaints. These were, of course, shipped from Switzerland to their British buyers, who were involved in the commercial jewellery trade. From there, the watches would be passed to the War Department. As such, the GSTP watches are also sometimes called "Temporary Pattern" watches - Well, this would also make sense, as they were a short-term fix for the military, however, the term Trade Pattern is the more likely as there are other notable precedents in the chain of supply, where items were often referred to in official documents as "Trade Patterns". The term "TP" was typically used for service goods that were finished to an industrial standard, with less of the polish and finesse associated with the items when sold in peacetime.
Offered in working order the watch shows no sign of extensive service wear, and the enamel dial is perfect. Additional servicing and a 12-month warranty can be requested for this watch at a small cost.
