WW1 "Marksman" 30x 40 mm Shooting Telescope
A good WW1 era telescope by J H Steward Ltd London. Designed for the rifle shooter, the Marksman range of telescopes have high magnification.
Appealing to military men, Marksman leather and brass telescopes were robust and shorter than the Army issue scopes. Some, like this one, also feature a quick-focus eyepiece.
Showing light overall signs of use but no unsightly dents, this telescope retains a fading oxide finish, as well as good leatherwork with all the stitched seams holding firm. Optically, the lenses provide a clear and sharp image. However, the 40 mm objective lens has a chip to the inside surface, which isn't immediately noticeable due to the extended sun-hood and does not affect the picture. Magnification is somewhere between 25x - 30x. No fungus evident.
