WW1 Kaiserliche Marine Stopwatch
An incredibly rare WW1 German Imperial Navy stopwatch by Alpina, now bearing the French Navy stamp, as applied to captured equipment and marked upside down. During the Great War, the French Navy were focused on the Mediterranean and was involved in the Dardanelles Campaign.
The stopwatch is of the rapid running type, often associated with torpedo timing, but a submarine connection cannot be confirmed, although it is virtually identical to those used by the KM in the 1940s. However, the earlier Alpinas are recognisable as they feature ornate engraving on the balance bridge and the font chosen for the dial numerals, as seen here. It is in full working order.
A rare opportunity for the specialist collector.
