6 Piece Improved Call Whistle By S. Auld c.1890
A scarce whistle by Samuel Auld. Designed in the 1870s for Police and Railway use, the "Improved Call" was handmade in Glasgow in a unique and time-consuming way. Unlike their competitors who made their whistles from sheet metal, Auld made a superior product from cast metal components, laboriously assembled a heavy and robust call. A tell-tale line is just visible around the mouthpiece that identifies this as one of Auld's earlier 6 piece whistles of Scottish heritage.
Presented in good order, the whistle retains its original pea, which blows loud and clear.
