H. Potter 1897 Boer War Military Fife

A Boer War period British Army issue fife signed by the London maker, Henry Potter & Co. This fife is unusual as it features four keys, while most have none. It also bears an 1897 date together with various military issue numbers and "RAC", Royal Army College, marking.

Presented in generally good condition with some historical in-service knocks but no cracks or obvious repairs. Cleaning or a service will likely be required for the fife to play properly, although, as is, I can get a "toot" out of it. Nevertheless, these woodwind instruments are very basic as they do not rely on reeds or other such devices to play, no doubt contributing to their popularity in the field.
